Red hot flames have torn through a factory in Perth’s south, sending potentially dangerous smoke billowing into the air on Friday.

It is one of two dangerous fires crews are battling in the city as some areas topped 43C during a third heatwave in as many weeks.

A hazardous and toxic materials (HAZMAT) warning was triggered after flames engulfed an industrial warehouse on Port Rd at Kwinana Beach about 1.30pm.

Smoke could impact Kwinana Beach, Kwinana, Medina, Orelia, Parmelia, Bertram, Wellard, Leda and East Rockingham.

“As a precautionary measure, people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed. Air conditioners should also be switched off,” authorities warned.

“People should stay away from the area. If you are already in the area, take advice from emergency services personnel.”

The fire can be seen from Kings Park — 40km away.

Further north, residents have used hoses to fend off an out-of-control bushfire threatening properties.

A watch and act is in place for an area taking in parts of Spearwood, Lake Coogee, Bibra Lake and Yangebup.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing,” locals were warned.

“If you are not prepared, or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.

“If you are well-prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.”

The fire is moving in a southerly direction and is not contained or controlled.

Crews are battling the emergency on the ground with support from teams in the air.

“It got a little bit too close for comfort. It was a bit scary there for a while, very hot, but I’m glad we’re going to be OK,” one local said.

The fire was reported at 10.47am.

Perth’s CBD was forecast to hit 41C on Friday but surged to 42C about 1.20pm.

Elsewhere, across the city, Pearce recorded 44.8C at 2.15pm while gauges at Perth Airport, Gooseberry Hill and the Swan Valley rose beyond 43C.

WA’s capital is expected to hit 41C again on Saturday and 37C on Sunday.
