Desire and Tane Ruri claim nothing arrived on their special day despite them paying $3000 for marquees, decorations and dinnerware.

“It was literally like the carpet was pulled out from underneath you and you’re falling in a pit of darkness,” Tane said.

Laced with Love is based in Landsdale, in Perth’s northern suburbs, and is owned by Cathy Coppolina.

On its website the business says it has “helped countless couples turn their dreams into reality by offering affordable wedding packages which enabled them to finally get married”.

But more and more clients have come forward to say they were stood up and left to find last-minute replacements just days before their weddings, leaving them even more out of pocket.

“Every time we tried to catch up it was (a) cancellation within the hour that we were meeting and it was just a nightmare,” Chloe Slattery, who paid a deposit for a marquee, said.

Wedding suppliers also claim to have been caught up in the mess, while a photographer says she was forced to take court action over money she was owed.

Consumer Protection has received complaints against the company and is currently investigating.

“When any trader doesn’t provide the goods or the service that the consumer has paid for … the consumer is entitled to a remedy and most of the time that remedy will be in the form of a refund,” the watchdog’s commissioner Trish Blake said.

Coppolina said she was trying to sell the business and intended to refund customers.
