A Fremantle man has been charged over the alleged assault of a crew member on a flight from Perth to Karratha, in WA’s Pilbara region.
The 62-year-old accused allegedly became aggressive after being refused alcohol about 5pm Thursday.
WA Police said Qantas cabin staff and passengers tried to calm the man before he headed to the plane’s toilet area and allegedly struck the crew member in the back.

Flight staff and passengers then worked together to restrain the man, police said. The crew member did not require medical treatment.

Authorities were waiting at Karratha Airport and arrested the man once the plane touched down. He was charged with assault and behaving in an offensive or disorderly manner endangering safety onboard an aircraft.
He will appear in Karratha Magistrates Court on September 5.
WA Police Inspector Geoff DeSanges said violence – particularly on an aircraft – was unacceptable.
“Flight crews, like everybody else, are entitled to a safe and hassle-free work environment,” he said. “This behaviour is not only inappropriate (but) it also puts other crew and passengers at risk.”
A Qantas spokesperson said the airline did not tolerate abusive behaviour, adding: “The safety of our customers and crew is our No.1 priority.”
