Three people have been taken to hospital following a destructive multi-car collision in Perth’s southern suburbs.

It is understood a car driven by a pregnant woman lost control on Leach Hwy in Booragoon before taking out a traffic light and smashing into several other vehicles at the intersection of Riseley St just after 9.30am on Wednesday.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was taken to nearby Fiona Stanley Hospital while a woman in her 60s and a man in his 40s were taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

Others were checked over at the scene but no one is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Witness Stewart Lougher said he was alerted to the crash by a loud bang.

“It’s a terrible situation. Hopefully everyone that has gone to hospital or is getting looked after is ok,” he said.

The crash forced the closure of the busy highway westbound between Murdoch Dr and Riseley St for a number of hours before it was reopened at about 12.30pm.

Police are investigating whether a medical episode triggered the incident.
