WA Police is investigating vision of tow trucks cutting across Perth freeway traffic in an apparent race to a job.

In the clip captured on the Mitchell Fwy in West Leederville about 8am on Tuesday, a truck driver slices across multiple lanes and narrowly avoids an exit barrier.

A second truck follows closely behind down the Vincent St exit, tailgating the first, looking for a way around.

The incident caught the attention of police, with WA’s top cop Col Blanch addressing it on Tuesday.

“No one’s above the law. Police have a long history with tow truck drivers and certainly correcting them when they’re stepping outside the law,” he said.

“If we’ve got evidence of tow truck drivers behaving badly, breaking laws, we will come down on them.”

Blanch expected police to look over the vision.

“I’m assuming our traffic enforcement division will be looking at that video and making sure we’re doing something about it,” he said.

But suspended licenses are not enough to stop all rogue operators.

Towies told 7NEWS that some drivers with disqualified licences co-pilot with juniors, ordering them to drive in the same erratic fashion that got them suspended in the first place.
